I cannot figure out exactly what the appeal of old, B&W, degraded, film transfers is, but dear God, I think they are erotic. Maybe because the very first porn movies I saw fell in this category. Maybe because they were made before the "sexual revolution" of the 60s, thus were FAR more taboo.
